FAQs

Can bee venom be used on all skin types?
Living Nature’s Organic Bee Venom Mask is suitable for all skin types, however it is not suitable for consumers with bee-related allergies. Patch testing is always advised, especially for people with very sensitive skin.

How does bee venom work on the skin?
Bee Venom is a unique multi-component ingredient with numerous components which are beneficial to your skin. Bee Venom stimulates the epidermal cells (top skin layer) and acts as a carrier for other ingredients, allowing ingredients such as Manuka Honey and other beneficial ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin.

As we age, it is more difficult to penetrate the skin’s surface as it becomes less permeable.  Bee Venom helps break down aged cells and molecules and supports blood circulation, which stimulates cell regeneration and collagen formation, resulting in fresher, younger and healthier looking skin. Bee Venom also rouses facial muscles which in turn, provide a lifting and plumping effect, helping to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

When the active ingredient of bee venom is applied to the epidermis (top skin layer), the dermis (lower skin layer) activates its collagen synthesis processes, stimulating cell renewal and regrowth, and building collagen and elastin fibres.  Fresh oxygenated blood flows to the area, further improving skin health.

How quickly can results be expected from the Bee Venom Mask?
Results may vary depending on individual skin type and conditions; however most people would see a noticeable difference immediately following treatment.  A gentle exfoliation prior to use may enhance benefits (see usage instructions). Using the product regularly (2-3 times a week) will result in long term visible benefits.

At what age should one start using the Bee Venom Mask?
Sooner rather than later, as prevention is better than cure.  The Bee Venom Mask can be used at any age, but is predominantly used by women over 30 when they start to see the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and are concerned about the adverse effects of ageing.

How can I be sure I won’t react to the Bee Venom Mask? (Patch Testing)
Living Nature advises all consumers to patch test products prior to use. Partially tear open a sachet and taking a swab of product with your finger or cotton bud. Ensure you re-seal the sachet by folding the end over. Apply the product to a small area on your neck, and wait 30 minutes. It is normal to experience some cooling or warming, or a slight prickly sensation. Provided no extreme redness, itching or burning is experienced, you can safely continue to use the product.

I got sunburnt today – can I still use the Bee Venom mask tonight?
It is not advisable to use the mask on sunburnt skin or when suffering any other skin irritations. Wait a few days until your skin has completely settled and returned to normal before using the mask.

Why is this Bee Venom Mask not certified by BDIH?
Like the rest of Living Nature’s skincare products, the Organic Bee Venom Mask is a natural product made in New Zealand from natural and organic ingredients.

The entire formulation is natural, and the bee venom is certified organic (along with other organic ingredients), however Bee Venom itself cannot be certified natural under BDIH and COSMOS regulations, due to the use of live bees to obtain the venom. The balance of the ingredients are certified natural by both Cosmos and the BDIH, however the bee venom itself prevents us from obtaining natural certification.

How do you extract venom from the bees?
A glass sheet is placed into the hive, and a low frequency electrical pulse stimulates the bees to ‘sting’ the glass sheet and the venom dries instantly on the glass. The hive is then opened and the sheets collected. The venom powder is scraped off the glass and collected. Each batch of venom undergoes strict scientific analysis to ensure regulatory organic compliance.

Modern day bee venom extraction uses safe processes that do not harm bees, and new developments and safer methods are currently being researched and developed. For 30 years, the team at Living Nature has taken pride in keeping up with industry standards and will continue to do so with all ingredients, processes and manufacturing methods.

Living Nature's bee venom supplier is based in an ecologically clean area in Northland, New Zealand and is certified as an organic apiary by AsureQuality NZ and is Hua Parakore (Pure Products) validated and verified.

Do the bees die in the process?
Bees do not die in the process as their stingers cannot actually penetrate the glass, thereby leaving their stingers and venom sacks in tact with their abdomen.  It is only when a bee stings a soft surface, like human flesh, that the stinger has the ability to lodge within the skin.  If this happens, then the stinger and bee venom sac can get dislodged from the bee, causing it to die.

Living Nature love their bees which kindly produce our Manuka honey and bee venom and have not, will not, and do not condone testing on animals or animal cruelty.

Are these the bees that also produce our Manuka honey for other Living Nature products?
No – Living Nature’s organic bee venom and organic Manuka honey are sourced from separate suppliers in North Island, New Zealand.
